Raloxifine

Raloxifene (brand name Evista) is a prescription medication in the class of SERMs (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators). It’s commonly used in women, but it also shows up in certain off-label contexts.

What it does

Raloxifene acts like estrogen in some tissues and blocks estrogen in others:

• Bones → acts like estrogen → helps maintain bone density
• Breast tissue → blocks estrogen → lowers risk of certain breast cancers

Approved medical uses

• Prevention and treatment of osteoporosis (especially in postmenopausal women)
• Reduction of risk of invasive breast cancer in high-risk women

Why people mention it in fitness / PED circles

Some use raloxifene off-label for:

• Managing or reducing gynecomastia (male breast tissue)
• Post-cycle hormone balancing (though this is less common than alternatives like tamoxifen)

Compared to other SERMs, raloxifene is sometimes preferred for gyno because it can be effective on breast tissue without strongly stimulating other estrogenic pathways.

Side effects

Even though it’s safer than many compounds, it’s still not trivial:

• Hot flashes
• Leg cramps
• Possible stroke risk in susceptible individuals

Important cautions

• Not something to self-prescribe casually
• Risk of clotting increases with smoking, dehydration, or long inactivity
• Should be used under medical supervision
